Dalstons Soda Music Photographs
There’s nothing more rewarding that being asked to work again for a brand you’ve worked with before. I feel very lucky to have done several different briefs for Dalstons Soda. Legends. The drinks are delish too. I’m sipping one now as I write.
The brief
The brief was to create a series of images putting Dalstons drinks cans in a musical setting. There should be one shot per flavour (edit: Peach had not yet been released when we did this shoot). There should be more environmental context in the photos than other Dalstons imagery but they should still adhere to the guidelines of having monochrome sets and the background colours matching the can colour.
The plan
I rented out a recording studio in Dalston that had loads of gear we could use as props and set. We would create little scenes using items of musical equipement and incorporate the coloured backgrounds that had already been created for the Dalstons Natural Ingredients shoot.
There wasn’t time to recce the location, so we had to freestyle this one, but it turned out nice!
The results
Want to know a fun* tech fact?
To get the lemon shot exposed properly, I had to use a 10 second exposure to get the blue LEDs on the amplifier shining nicely, and fired my strobes on the can in the same exposure.
*only fun if you like tech facts
