Product-Forward Hero Shots Photography

There’s also a lot of buzz at the moment about AI generated images, and a particular hype about Photoshop’s new AI Generative Fill, which stands to be a game-changing tool.

However, if there’s one thing you still really have to nail authentically, it’s your hero product shots. Get these right and not only will you have the primary media that will catch your audience’s attention and drive sales, but you can even use them within AI generated images. One photograph taken properly can be very versatile.

The image below, a product shot of Brewdog’s famous Punk IPA taken from a low angle (low angles are great for giving that ‘hero’ feel to a product photo) is a simple example of how you can place a photograph in a digital background if the photo was shot right in the first place.

As you would expect from a professional still life photographer (that’s food, drink and products) I still recommend doing all your images ‘for real’, but AI and digital creativity open up the playing field for brands with lower budgets. Just make sure you invest in the photographs of the actual products!

With both of these, you could use them with a coloured background (matching your branding) if your intention is to build brand recognition and make something more appropriate for advertising or promotional material, or you could use a white background version in a sales-driving situation, such as on the e-commerce section of your website.
