Playing with Food. Jenga made out of chips!
We made a full-sized, playable Jenga tower out of freshly cut and fried chips! Check out the photo story:
As I’m sure you can tell, this was a lot of fun.
Working with a theme of pub games, we built the still-life environment around the main subject, the tower of chips, using the props and setting to take it from an idea through to a fully-developed scene. We used pints of beer, a gin and tonic, and snacks to lean into the pub vibe; ketchup, salt, and vinegar to accompany the chips, and for the games side of thing we included pool balls, darts, cards (specifically Uno!), and dice. The surface itself was chosen to suggest a pool table.
The lighting was shaped to mimic the soft, warm, overhead lighting you often find over a snooker table.
When designing the shots, it was important that the images would tell a story that brought out both sides of the idea: the food and the game.
This project was enabled by the excellent work of the stylists who joined me: food stylist Jess McIntosh and her assistant Sam, and props stylist Daisy Shayler-Webb.
Hope you enjoyed the show!
