Turning Bland to Grand: Fun Vegetable Photography & Repurposing Those Smoothie Hats!

Imaginative Veggie photography with ‘repurposed knitwear!’

I thought I would kick off my creative food photography this year with some funny vegetable pictures. The idea I had was to upcycle those little knitted hats you sometimes get with Innocent Drinks smoothies and use them to give some veggies a makeover. So if you’re into upcycled crafts and still life photography, you might enjoy this project 😁

I think the parsnip one looks like an ice-cream cone. Maybe parsnips will be the next go-to snack on beach trips…

As a professional commercial still-life photographer, I mostly deal with still photographs, but in 2024 it’s more important than ever to get things moving. As more and more advertising is done through video, especially on TikTok and reels on Instagram, I decided to start with one hero image of each vegetable and hat combo (above), then make a simple stop-motion animation to accompany it. By playing with colours and textures, I think I’ve made this minimal food photography project into something dynamic and entertaining, and I hope you agree!

Creative uses for Innocent’s little knitted hats? You betcha.

A couple more to follow below, but first let me jump in and say that if you are looking for a creative still-life photographer based in London (and working throughout the UK) and you dig these vegetables, I am very much available for hire.
